Impressions of Madrid: Parque del Buen Retiro

Tired of walking through busy streets and hungry for food and wine, we arrived to the Parque del Buen Retiro. Madrid’s most popular park and one of its largest, situated close to the city centre.


With lots of trees, grass and bushes, the Retiro park is a lush and green oasis in a big stone city. In the middle of the park you can find a large pond where people rent little row boats and have a fun time with friends or enjoy some quiet time with their lover. Around the pond it’s bustling with activity. There are musicians playing loud latin music, there are street vendors selling drinks and snacks. There are gypsies reading your fortune in cards or in the palm of your hand. Children run around, an old lady walks her dog, tourists take pictures and students hang about in little groups. All around the water are bits of grass where you can have a nice picnic or a siesta in the shade of a tree.
