Melbourne is famous for many things. But the beach is not really one of them. When you talk about going to the beach in Melbourne, many Australians give you a smirky laugh as if to say “what beach?!”. Melbourne’s beaches are a bit different from the beaches Australia is famous for. There is no surf, no wild rocky coast, no stretches of sand as far as the eye can see. But despite all of that, there are still some nice places to enjoy some beach time on a hot sunny day. Watch our video at the bottom of this post to see what our favourite Melbourne beaches are like!
Melbourne’s beaches, our top three
The most characteristic one of Melbourne’s beaches has to be Brighton Beach. With its iconic colourful bathing boxes it stands out from any other beach and attracts many visitors from all over the world. The bathing boxes are perfect for colourful photo shoots. From Brighton Beach you also get a really nice view of the city’s skyline. And even though it can get pretty busy, Brighton always keeps its relaxed atmosphere. We love Brighton for its calm water and sandy beach and it’s easy to reach by train from the city centre.
